Description

Perfect if you want to explore pottery in more depth, but you’re not ready to commit to a longer course. Through three weekly sessions, you'll learn the basic processes in creating a finished piece - throwing, trimming and glazing - taking your work from a ball of clay to completed pottery.

No experience is needed, and complete beginners are welcome.

Schedule

Week 1: Throwing

Learn the basics of wheel throwing, including centering clay, pulling walls and shaping your form, with plenty of support.

Week 2: Trimming

Refine your pieces from week one by trimming away excess clay, finalizing their shape and adding finishing details.

Week 3: Glazing

Glaze your work and discover how different finishes transform through the firing process.

What you’ll make

Every potter's early experience on the wheel is different - as you’re just starting to learn, the clay often has ideas of its own. You might create cups, bowls, plates, vases, planters, candle holders or small sculptural pieces.

Studio & Format

This class is limited to 2 students, allowing for plenty of individual support in a relaxed studio environment. Each session lasts 3 1/2 hours, including clean-up.

Experience Level

This is a great course for those with zero experience, as well as anyone with prior experience wanting to get back into pottery. You’ll get plenty of support to finish the course with at least one completed piece.

Attendance

Due to the course only being three weeks, each session progresses from the previous week and cannot be repeated. Make-up sessions or rescheduling will be considered on a case by case basis. Please only book if you’re able to attend all three dates, as missing a session will affect your ability to complete your work.

Finished Work

Your course includes up to 3 pounds of finished fired work. Additional firing is charged at $5 per pound. Pieces are usually ready to collect around one week after the course ends.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel this course up to 2 weeks before the start date for a full refund. If you cancel between 7 and 14 days before the start date, you'll be entitled to a 50% refund. No refund can be given if within 7 days of the start date. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to cancel.

In the case of extenuating circumstances, we may be able to defer your course.

What to Wear

Pottery will inevitably be messy, so wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting clay on. Clay washes out easily. You’re invited to bring an apron if you have one, or you can proudly wear some of your clay out into public after your session. Everyone might be impressed now that you’re officially an artist.

Scheduling

After purchase, Pottery Peace will contact you about scheduling your session.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants must be 18 or over.
